The AV560 Semi-Automatic Inspection system was developed to
insure the repeatability of the inspection process and reduce
operator fatigue. This system uses a fully programmable X, Y stage
and oblique viewing optics. The operator is guided through a
pre-programmed inspection routine. As the operator views the
board and recognizes a defect, the inspection routine is
suspended and a defect is logged automatically. Defect files are
stored in an ASCII file for post rework and SPC analysis.
The unique oblique angle optics allow the inspectors to view
the SMD components at an angle where defects can be readily
detected. In order to properly assess the quality of solder
joints an oblique angle of around 34 degrees is optimal.
The AV560 semi-automatic inspection system can accommodate a
variety of different optical configurations making for a truly
universal machine. It possible to inspect SMD
devices, Hybrids, MCM's and other micro-electronic packages. As component size continues to shrink, manual inspection results further deteriorate. The
semi-automatic system assures the repeatability of the
inspection routine and magnifies even the smallest components to
a level where defects can be seen.
The system is a cost effective inspection tool which can
greatly improve inspection results and help collect the data
necessary to meet ISO 9002 standards, as well as facilitate
overall process improvement.
